The Swiss blue-chip index SMI continued to rise in March, ending the month up 2.6% at 11,730.4 points. This represents a gain of 5.3% after the first quarter of 2024.
Trading activity increased significantly compared to the previous month in all but one segment. Turnover in the equities segment rose by 15.8% to 75.4 billion in March, and in structured products by even 20.9% to 940 million.
Overall, trading turnover on the Swiss stock exchange totalled CHF 118.8 billion in March – 5.3% more than in February. At 344.9 billion since the beginning of the year, it is also 14.7% higher than the figure for Q1 2023.
