After a difficult start into the month, the Swiss blue-chip index SMI closed at an annual high of 12,436.6 points, an increase of 1% for the month of August and 11.7% since the beginning of the year. Trading volumes on SIX Swiss Exchange in August remained below the levels of the very volatile month of July, at CHF 83.7 billion, while the number of transactions amounted to just under 4 million.
