Last Wednesday evening, the Swiss Derivative Awards were held physically for the first time after three years. SIX Swiss Exchange, has been the main sponsor of the event since 2006 and co-host since last year, together with Avaloq. Products admitted to the Swiss Derivative Awards are all products issued in Switzerland in 2021 or before and listed on SIX Swiss Exchange. The seven-member jury selects its favorites for each category, which then make it onto the shortlist. The winners are determined according to a voting process and confirmed by the jury president.
André Buck, Global Head Sales & Relationship Management at SIX Swiss Exchange, who opened the evening together with Avaloq, expressed his enthusiasm: "It is a pleasure to see the reliable and innovative strength of the industry. The winners have proven once again this year that they are capable of extraordinary achievements. Congratulations!"
Serge Nussbaumer, Editor-in-Chief of payoff, and Daniel Manser, both from Avaloq, were leading the awards ceremony as a well-established moderation team. A total of 14 awards were presented this evening, including a special award for Leonteq's White Labeling Program. For the third time, two categories with a special focus on environmental protection (ESG and climate protection) were awarded.
The jury, chaired by Prof. Dr. Marc Oliver Rieger (University of Trier), consists of Ülkü Cibik (Counsel, Meyerlustenberger Lachenal), Sébastien Neukom (Head Structured Products Sales, SIX Swiss Exchange), Nicolas Peter (Head of Investments and Member of the Executive Board, Aquila), Abdel Hamidouche (Structured Products Advisor, Banque Mirabaud) as well as Serge Nussbaumer (Chief Editor payoff, Avaloq). The winners of the Research Awards were jointly selected by Prof. Dr. Martin Wallmeier (University of Fribourg) and Prof. Dr. Marc Oliver Rieger (University of Trier).
Sébastien Neukom, Head Structured Products Sales at SIX Swiss Exchange and jury member since last year, who presented the Market Maker Awards that evening is proud to contribute significantly to the development, but also to the recognition of exceptional performance. Hamza Banani, Index Licensing Manager at SIX Financial Information, presented the award for the best index product as sponsor of the Index Awards.

Best Market Makers
For investors, fair prices on the secondary market are a key feature of a “good” investment product. In the category der Leverage Products: Bank Julius Bär was awarded first place as the best market maker. The issuer stood out due to consistent quality in the pricing of its issues in the secondary market on SIX Swiss Exchange. In the category Investment Products: Luzerner Kantonalbank was successful in taking first place.

The quality of term sheets, brochures and customer magazines, the derivatives website, market making, investor survey results, and pricing were all factors in assessing issuers' services. This year, the jury awarded the coveted distinction to Leonteq Securities, Luzerner Kantonalbank, Vontobel and Zürcher Kantonalbank.
Research-Awards
The best academic works (Master, Doctor/PhD, Paper) about Derivatives and Structured Products went to Tim Maximilian Baumgartner of the University of Ulm on his master thesis: 'What is wrong with the VIX?'.
