For the twelfth time, the ETPD, which was held at ConventionPoint Zurich, welcomed around 150 professional investors. This varied edition of the event focused on recent market events and investment strategies.
Participants were welcomed by André Buck, Global Head Sales, SIX, Securities and Exchanges, after which Martin Spieler, a business journalist at Tamedia, commentated live on the opening of trading on the Swiss stock exchange. With his comments on the market, he kicked off the dialog as part of a podium discussion, which was centered around global macroeconomic conditions and also looked at the impending trade war between the US and China. Attention then turned to an analysis of the interest rate situation and investment recommendations adapted to the current market situation.
The third panel discussion of the day debated the potential of cryptocurrencies and the underlying blockchain technology, including the view that traditional exchange trading will represent the majority of investors’ trading preference for at least the next decade. Following a networking break an expert panel discussed the complex relationship of Buy- and Sellside, debating the question of who represents the leading party, resulting in the realization on both sides that it must be a partnership to generate mutual benefit for the customers.
The day finished with the keynote speech from Prof. Jan-Egbert Sturm. He presented the current challenges facing the global economy and demonstrated that the Swiss economy is growing.
Know-how and networking
Throughout the day, attendees were able to obtain information about the latest trends and products from eight product providers at the exhibition stands. The insights gained were discussed and elaborated on during breaks, lunch and the closing networking drinks.
