The Swiss Climate Foundation supports climate-friendly initiatives by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Switzerland and Lichtenstein. By efficiently redistributing funds from the Swiss CO2 levy, it aims to strengthen these countries as business hubs and promote climate protection and innovation.

SMEs seeking financial support from the foundation must complete an application process and meet specific criteria. The SME must be based in Switzerland or Liechtenstein and employ no more than 250 people. Additionally, less than half of the company’s capital should be owned by larger companies or public sector organizations. Projects should, for instance, help avoid greenhouse gas emissions and cannot focus on enhancing the efficiency of internal combustion engines or developing electric cars and lorries. All criteria are listed here.

Marion Leslie, Sustainability Sponsor on the Executive Board of SIX, stated: “This partnership is a natural extension of our sustainability efforts and a testament to our commitment to empowering SMEs. By acknowledging their pivotal role in driving sustainability innovation and addressing climate change, we enhance our impact. Joining forces with other leading organizations allows us to shape the transition to a sustainable economy and drive change in Switzerland to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.”

“Climate change already has visible negative impacts on nature and humans today. Scientists agree that climate change is man-made and that its intensification must and can be stopped immediately and consistently. Nevertheless, governments, businesses, and society, all of us, are too hesitant and fail to develop holistic and joint solutions. With SIX, a strong new partner comes on board. We are extremely pleased about this”, said Vincent Eckert, Managing Director Swiss Climate Foundation.
